The nearest airport is Koh Samui. There is another airport that is near Koh Phangan in Surat Thani.
In both cases, you need to take a ferry to Koh Phangan.
Flights from Bangkok to Koh Samui are more expensive.
There are 2 airports in Bangkok, the international one called Suvarnabhumi and the domestic one is called Don Mueang.
Flights to Surat Thani will leave from the domestic one, Don Mueang.
Flights to Koh Samui may leave from the international one Suvarnabhumi.
Please check so you can plan properly.
If you take a domestic flight from Don Mueang please make sure you have at least 4 hours from the time you land in Suvarnabhumi, just to be on the safe side.
You can take also night bus from Bangkok to Koh Phangan.
Or from wherever you are in Thailand, just reach Surat Thani and take a ferry to Koh Phangan.
You can get 60 days tourist visa in the Thai embassy in your country, or 30 days when you land in the airport. Please remember that you enter Thailand as a tourist and get a tourist visa. Please do not tell the embassy/immigration that you go to study yoga. They will ask you too many questions and make your life harder. Thousands of yoga students enter Thailand as tourists, no one gets a student visa, no yoga school provides that. Just tell them that you are a tourist and make your life easy. This is what all the students in Yoga teacher training courses are doing.
